What do you want to do when you grow up? The answer was instantaneous: a writer. As the years went by, this would change several times — a researcher, a historian, an archaeologist, an artist — but my love for writing never waned. Everyone already knows English, you don’t need to major in it. And for a while, I believed them. Yet, here I am, a Literature Honours student at the University of British Columbia, simultaneously minoring in Creative Writing, constantly fending off questions concerning the utility of my degree. Creating this website is probably the toughest thing I’ve done, being more accustomed to pen and paper than typing. But I persevere, in the hope that one day, one person will resonate with my writing. If you were to ask me what I want to do once I graduate, I’d still hesitate. Write, yes. Of course. Write what? About sports? Write poetry? Stories? About the political landscape? Movie reviews? Ideas dreamt up in class inspired by classics and centuries-old literature that I found so much joy in, I turned it into the restofmylife? Unnecessarily opinionated pieces on books that shouldn’t see the light of day yet everyone seems to be obsessed with? Welcome to my space: a page for everything and nothing all at once. Who I will be after university is yet to be determined; in the meantime, I’ll be here, writing for the sake of writing and nothing more.
